Swansea City have postponed their bid to sign Millwall defender Zak Whitbread until the new year because of injury. The Championship club agreed a deal to sign the former Liverpool trainee, 25, but he has just undergone hip surgery so the signing has been delayed. Swans chairman Huw Jenkins said: "We agreed a deal for Zak with Millwall. "But because he has just had a hip operation, he felt it was better if he remained until he was fully fit. The situation will be reviewed in January." The American-born centre-back has played 117 times for Millwall since signing from Premier League side Liverpool in 2006, but was transfer-listed in July after he refused to discuss a new contract.
