Swans can't afford Hamilton starlet
The Championship side were keen to bring the 18-year-old PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year to the Liberty Stadium.
But manager Roberto Martinez told the South Wales Evening Post: "Right now, James McCarthy would be an impossible task for us financially."
Celtic and Portsmouth have both had bids for McCarthy rejected in the past month.
