Rodgers takes heart from Swans display

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers was encouraged by the performance of his team in their 2-1 defeat at Leeds and was frustrated they were not awarded a penalty. The Swans took the lead when Stephen Dobbie latched on to David Cotterill's long ball over the top to fire home in the 13th minute. But Leeds fought back in the second period and just about edged a keen contest at Elland Road thanks to Bradley Johnson's volleyed equaliser in the 56th minute and Luciano Becchio's cool finish eight minutes later. "It was a terrific game but an eight-minute spell cost us the result," Rodgers said. "Swansea haven't won here since 1949 so history was against us but importantly we gave a good performance. I thought it was a clear penalty when Joe Allen went down. In any other area of the field it would have been a free-kick. "Joe showed a great touch and the defender brought him down, so it was a definite penalty. I thought so at the time and I had my view confirmed when I saw it again." He added: "We are not far away from getting an away win but we have to cut out the kind of spells that saw us concede the two goals."
