Rodgers keen to lighten squad

Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to strengthen his ranks but admits existing squad members will likely have to move on before that happens. Rodgers is desperate to boost his striking options but knows the ideal scenario involves freeing up space within his squad and on the club`s wage bill. He has taken the first steps towards that, although it is unknown which players he is willing to let go. "For one, we are not a club that has got an unlimited budget," he said in the South Wales Evening Post. "And the second point is that we have a squad which is bigger than I want. "We need to do some work off the field to try to lighten the squad, and that should hopefully allow us to bring some other players in. We are all professionals, we all know that players sometimes have to move on. That is football. I respect players and I always speak to them first. "I have spoken to some players and said `listen, you work well and I respect your work. You are giving me everything every day, but you are not going to play at this moment and you may need to go out on loan or look elsewhere`." Although he did add: "Even though the squad is big, I think we would have the possibility of doing something if the right one became available."
