Today’s Player of the Day is the new Swansea number 9 Michu. Miguel Perez Cuesta was born 21st March 1986 in Oviedo, Asturias but is better known by Michu. He is an attacking midfielder who has recently signed for Swansea in July 2012 and scored twice on his debut.

After beginning his playing career with local team Real Oviedo in the Spanish lower leagues, Michu moved to Celta de Vigo B in the Segunda Division B in 2007. Midway through the 2007-08 season, he received his maiden first team call up and soon became a vital part of the starting XI. On 27th July 2011, after his contract with Celta expired, Michu signed a two year deal with Rayo Vallencano, freshly promoted to the top division. In his first season , Michu was one of the best national scorers (ninth overall, best in the midfielder position) notably netting braces against Real Sociedad, Racing de Santander and CA Osasuna.

On 20th July 2012, Michu joined Premier League side Swansea City for a fee of £2 million, signing a three year contract. Following the departure of Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Welsh side were looking for someone to fill the gap behind the striker in their 4-2-3-1 formation.

On 18th August 2012, in his league debut, Michu scored twice and provided an assist for Scott Sinclair in a 5-0 away win against Queens Park Rangers, becoming the first player to find the net in the new season.
