Parkes pushes for Seasiders job

A poor home clearance was collected by Brett Ormerod in the 13th minute and he slipped a pass out wide to Campbell who found the net with a 15-yard drive. That proved enough to secure the three points and Parkes is hoping it will also clinch him the manager's job full-time. "Success for Blackpool is staying in this division and we have done that quite comfortably so it is going to be a good trip home," he said. "There is a board meeting in a couple of weeks when my position will be discussed but I would definitely like the job." The Swans had most of the play but they came up against a dogged Blackpool defence. "We were at full throttle throughout the game and had to defend well although I reckon both sides had stone wall penalties turned down. "We have finished on a good note with only one defeat in our last 10 matches and talk of being involved in a relegation battle seems a long time ago. "I am delighted with the victory and the performance as not many people would have expected us to win here. "Swansea are one of my favourite teams in the Championship and I actually tipped them to at least be in the play-offs." The speed of Campbell up front caused a much changed Swansea side problems in the opening minutes but leading scorer Jason Scotland squandered two opportunities at the other end before the Leicester City loanee snatched the game's only goal. They could even have doubled their advantage midway through the half but Alex Baptiste headed a David Vaughan corner wide from point-blank range. Swansea pushed everyone forward in the final minutes and substitute Mark Gower brought a fine save from Blackpool keeper Paul Rachubka and although both sides had those penalty claims turned down the visitors' defence held firm for victory. "It was a disappointing result but it has been a fabulous season and today I had an opportunity to look at things in readiness for next year," said Roberto Martinez. "The support we receive from the fans is why we are at this level and today, despite a defeat, they have again given us tremendous backing. "We are a lot better than we showed today especially in the final third but I still take plenty of positives from this game. "I know I will now speak to every player who is out of contract and we will certainly be looking to improve the squad for next season. "Some players may have their own decisions to make and there are sure to be many discussions before we agree new contracts but I firmly believe we need to add quality not quantity to the squad."
