MacDonald set to skipper U21s

MacDonald, 21, is the most experienced player in Brian Flynn's squad, and will win his 19th cap at this level at the Racecourse Ground. Wales are unbeaten in this qualifying group, and will want to build on the 5-1 win over Luxembourg in their last match. A Football Association of Wales spokesman said: "Shaun has been around this squad for a while now and has improved with every game. "He was in Swansea's first team for the opening game of the season and deserves the honour of captaining the under-21s after giving so much to the squad." Flynn has seen a clutch of youngsters move up to the seniors in recent seasons, having only failed in a play-off to reach this summer's UEFA finals at England's expense. He said: "In some ways this feels like a new beginning, we have made an okay start to the campaign, with a draw and a home win so far in the group. "Against Hungary we have a different prospect. They are a very talented team and technically very good and we are going to have to be at our best to get a decent result. "I watched Hungary beat Luxembourg 1-0 earlier in the group, and we have some good reports on them so we are well aware of what they are capable of doing. "Two years ago Hungary beat us 2-0 in the under-19s and we now have a lot of that squad with us for the game at Wrexham". Flynn added: "Wales are a small nation and I expect to see some of this under-21 squad pushing for places in the senior squad soon, this is the target that we set for all the boys. "It is good for Welsh football if we have two or three players pushing to reach the senior squad each year. That will make Welsh football very healthy. "Producing players for the seniors is more important than winning games at this level. "But you must have that winning mentality and hunger and desire not to get beaten, that is how you get to the senior squad and stay there."
