FA cites Wellens over 'spitting'

Doncaster Rovers midfielder Richie Wellens has been charged with improper conduct during the 3-1 defeat at Swansea on 21 February.Wellens, 28, allegedly spat in Swansea midfielder Leon Britton's face and has until 7 April to respond to the charge. [LNB]Rovers chief executive Dave Morris said the club was "surprised and shocked" by the charge. [LNB]"It is only backed by the testimony of Leon Britton with little or no supporting evidence," he said. [LNB]"The club will fully support Richie in his defence of this charge. [LNB]"Doncaster Rovers Football Club will be making no further comment on the matter at this time."
