Bellamy hails new era

Craig Bellamy believes it is the beginning of a `new era` for the South Wales derby and insists both Cardiff and Swansea are capable of gaining promotion to the Premier League. The Cardiff captain, who has a vast experience of playing derby matches in Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester and the North East, believes the pressure is off both clubs because of their good starts to the campaign. "The pressure is off, there is no need for either side to be nervous or uptight," Bellamy told the South Wales Echo. "Both Swansea and ourselves have enough points in the bag and we are entertaining our fans. The two sets of supporters are happy with us, so why should we be nervous? "This is a match between two good teams, two Welsh teams able to go at each other in their bid to get to the Premier League. This is a new era for the South Wales derby. Both clubs have new stadiums and are progressing. "Our fans don't want them to do well, and their fans don't want Cardiff to do well. But personally, if we are not promoted - and we are doing everything possible to ensure we are - then I would prefer it to be Swansea than anybody else. "For me, Welsh football is important and always has been. I'm a Cardiff boy, but I always think of Welsh football first."
