Allen hoping to build up cap tally

Allen, 19, has made giant strides this season having started on loan at non-league Wrexham and ended with his full Wales debut against Estonia after being a significant part of Swansea's fight for a play-off place. But he is still behind brother Harry, 21, who has won caps for the Great Britain deaf football team. Allen, preparing for the World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, said: "Harry is a pretty good footballer. He has already won caps for the Great Britain deaf team. "And he will be soon playing in the deaf Olympics, so he got his caps before me. "I have been very pleased for him to get such recognition, and now I can show him my caps too." On his own progress, Allen said: "I have made amazing strides this season. "I wasn't even in the under-21 squad when the campaign started but I have always dreamed of playing for my country and now I have one cap from last week's game against Estonia, and I am looking forward to getting a chance to play in a World Cup qualifier now. "I went on loan to Wrexham at the beginning of the season, which meant dropping out of the Football League for a while, and then I got injured. "I didn't feel that was a step down, the Blue Star league is a lot stronger than reserve-team football, so in effect it was a step up for me. "I was going to a club who should not be out of the Football League anyway, and I learned there from the manager Dean Saunders, who is also the Wales assistant manager. "But things change very quickly in football. I ended the season in the Swansea first team and now I have made my Wales debut." Allen is part of the youngest ever Wales squad, but defender Chris Gunter has dismissed that as an excuse for defeat here. He said: "People may think this is just a squad full of raw youngsters and that we are going to lose, but we have come here to win. "There will be no excuses, not just because we are youngsters. As players you should never look for excuses. We have to ignore who we are playing, the heat and hostile crowd, and go for the win." Wales are again crippled by injuries and the late withdrawals of Gareth Bale, Jack Collison, Sam Ricketts and Ched Evans ahead of this trip have been a blow. John Toshack is likely to bring in Oldham full-back Neil Eardley, Wolves midfielder David Edwards and Reading striker Simon Church -for his full debut - and still has to decide whether Wayne Hennessey or Boaz Myhill starts in goal. Gunter said: "It would be nice to end our season on a high before we all go away on holiday."
