Sunderland manager Roy Keane has reassured injury-plagued defender Stephen Wright that he has a future at the Stadium of Light.
The former Liverpool right-back has managed just five appearances in the past two seasons after a succession of knee and ankle injuries.
The 26-year-old made his latest comeback for the Black Cats reserves earlier in the week and has revealed that following a conversation with Keane he is still very much part of the manager's first-team plans.
"The ankle is good and now I just have to get my general fitness to where it needs to be," he said.
"The gaffer's spoken to me. He said he's played against me and knows what I'm about and he's said I'll get a chance.
"That's what I wanted to hear and I thank him for that."
