Sunderland's England Under-21 striker Connor Wickham has today pledged to donate £1,730 to the Help for Heroes charity after reaching out to his Twitter followers for support.
Wickham promised Twitter users that he would donate 10p for every re-tweet that his charitable message received with 17,300 users re-tweeting the forward within two hours of his post.
He is currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
A pleasant contrast to James McClean, who refused to wear a poppy on his shirt while playing for Sunderland.
And there has been questions at Wigan this week, the club he joined in the summer, with some reporters suggesting the player was dropped on Sunday for the reason . he wouldn't wear a poppy!
