Whitehead rues break timing
24 Mar 2009 - 13:15:04
Midfielder Dean Whitehead has bemoaned the timing of the international break with Sunderland currently in the midst of a poor run of results.
The Black Cats have picked up just two points from the last 15 on offer and currently find themselves just three points above the drop-zone.
Ricky Sbragia's side do not have another game until April 4 when they face West Ham United and Whitehead has admitted the enforced break is frustrating.
"I'd rather have a game on Saturday, I don't like the breaks," Whitehead told the club's official website.
"A lot of teams at the bottom are saying they'll be all right but we're all in a fight. We need to go out and get a positive result at West Ham and I wish the game was on Saturday.
"We've not picked up the points we'd have liked from recent games and it means there'll be extra pressure on us at West Ham.
"There'll be lots of twists and turns at the bottom between now and the end. If we could get a positive result at West Ham, it would make a massive difference."
