Westermann dishes out Black Cats snub
Germany defender Heiko Westermann has affirmed his desire to stick with Schalke amidst reports of interest from clubs abroad.[LNB] Sunderland were reported to have made a bid for the 26-year-old, who is currently on the road to recovery after breaking his foot, but the Schalke captain is only concentrating on getting back to full fitness and pulling on the Royal Blue shirt again next season.[LNB]"I don't care whether Sunderland or any other club comes in for me - I want to stay with Schalke," he told Germany's Kicker magazine.[LNB]"At the end of the day, we are playing in the Champions League next season and have high expectations.[LNB]"A transfer is not even a consideration for me."[LNB]Westermann still has four years left to run on his contract with Schalke, but the club's financial worries had increased speculation that he would be sold this summer.[LNB]He is due to report back to pre-season training in Gelsenkirchen with his team-mates tomorrow, although it will be a while yet before he can actually take part since his foot is still in a plaster cast.[LNB]"It makes no sense predicting when I will be able to train again," he said while promising to be present for manager Felix Magath's roll call tomorrow.
