Welbeck seals Cats loan move

Sunderland have wrapped up the signing of Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan deal.[LNB] Welbeck underwent a medical on Wearside earlier on Thursday and has now been confirmed as Sunderland's eighth signing of the summer.[LNB]The 19-year-old has been allowed out on loan by United to build up his experience in the Premier League after making just eight top-flight appearances for the club.[LNB]He has featured a total of 22 times for the Red Devils, scoring five goals, and also spent a spell on loan at Preston last season.[LNB]The England Under 21 international is likely to go straight into Steve Bruce's squad for Saturday's season opener at home to Birmingham City.[LNB]Bruce had lined up a deal for Welbeck even before he agreed to sell Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City.[LNB]Welbeck will now compete with Darren Bent, former United team-mate Fraizer Campbell and Martyn Waghorn for a place in the Sunderland attack.
