Sunderland's summer recruit David Vaughan hopes to adopt a role in the middle of the park for his new club this season.[LNB] The former Blackpool man has been ear-marked as a potential candidate to fill the team's problematic left side of their midfield.[LNB]Manager Steve Bruce has used three players in the position in three of their pre-season friendlies, indicating the position is up for grabs. [LNB]Vaughan was given a wide berth with the likes of Real Sociedad and Crewe, but he wants to stick to the middle of the park for The Black Cats.[LNB]"I didn't play much on the left at Blackpool. The last couple of years, I've been playing in the middle," he told the Sunderland Echo.[LNB]"The gaffer probably just gave me a run-out on the left the other night to try something. But hopefully I can play regularly in the middle.[LNB]"Up until the last couple of years, I always played on the left. But Ian Holloway switched me as soon as he came to Blackpool.[LNB]"Personally, I think that's my best position and that's where I've played consistently."
