31 August 2009 18:56
STEVE BRUCE has completed his seventh signing of the summer following the arrival of defender Michael Turner from Hull City on a four year deal. Central defender Turner, 25, was named the Tigers' Player of the Year for the last two successive seasons and joins the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee. Signed by Phil Parkinson in July 2006, Turner joins Sunderland having made 146 appearances for the KC Stadium, scoring 13 goals. Turner began his career at Charlton Athletic. Though he didn't appear in a senior game for the Addicks, the Lewisham-born defender was loaned out to Leyton Orient and Brentford. Turner made seven appearances for Orient and a further 16 for Brentford before the latter completed a permanent move to acquire his services for a nominal fee. After settling well in Humberside, Turner became a regular at the heart of the Tigers' defence and was in the side which won promotion to the top flight courtesy of a play-off win at Wembley in May 2008.
