Tottenham to revive interest in Sunderland's Kenwyne Jones

Spurs were linked with a move for Jones during the January transfer window but the Trinidad & Tobago striker chose to remain at Sunderland and signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract. However, with the threat of relegation now very much at the forefront of Jones' mind, especially after Sunderland's 3-1 defeat against Portsmouth on Monday night, the forward has become non-committal when asked if he will honour his deal with the Wearsiders, should they go down. Jones said: "If we stay up, of course I'll stay. I've committed myself to the club. If we stay up, I am definitely going to be here. But, if we go down, I can't say what's going to happen. "Obviously things do happen in those situations. Tottenham have been linked with me quite strongly. I can only focus on the job I have now, trying my best and playing well to keep the club up. "It's not necessarily been by best season. It's been interrupted by injuries. I've been carrying niggles all season. I only recently started to feel 100 per cent fit again." Meanwhile, Stewart Downing's proposed £10m move to Spurs is on the verge of collapse following reports that he could be out of action for six months with a suspected broken foot. Downing, 24, would have been one of the most high-profile departures from Boro if they went down this weekend, but his injury is likely to rule out any move until January, by which time the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Everton may have looked elsewhere. Downing was injured in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa when Stilian Petrov accidentally stood on his foot, forcing the winger to leave the field in tears.
