Tottenham bid for striker Kenwyne Jones rejected by Sunderland

Having already signed Jermain Defoe, Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is thought to be looking for a more physical forward to play alongside him, and Jones fits the bill. [LNB]However, the Sun[LNB] claims that Sunderland have told the London club they are not interested in any deal - particularly with a side they consider to be relegation rivals. [LNB]Only yesterday [Thursday], Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia denied that he had received offers for any of his players and insisted that the likelihood of Jones leaving the club was low - particularly for such a small fee. [LNB]"I've had no bids for Kenwyne Jones – in fact no bids for anyone as things stand," he said. "When you look at some of these stories, they're hard to take in. [LNB]"Us losing Kenwyne like that would be comparable to Villa losing Ashley Young for a song. It's just not going to happen. You'd be better off just packing your bags and leaving if you were going to let your top players just walk out of the door for next to nothing. [LNB]"If you look at the prices of Dimitar Berbatov going to Manchester United, and Jermain Defoe going to Tottenham Hotspur, and the sort of prices they are commanding, well, I certainly wouldn't value Kenwyne at £5m."[LNB]Redknapp is also said to have his eye on Wigan striker Emile Heskey. [LNB]With just six months remaining on his contract, speculation surrounding the 30-year-old's future has been rife over the past few months with several clubs - including Aston Villa and Liverpool - expressing an interest in the England forward. [LNB]Despite Wigan not wanting to let him go, chairman Dave Whelan has said the club will support Heskey - whatever his decision. "We totally respect Emile and it all depends on what he wants to do," he said. [LNB]"I honestly feel this could be his last career move. But, obviously, we'd love to see him stay at Wigan."[LNB]
