Tigers deny Whitehead interest

Hull City chairman Paul Duffen insists he has no intention of signing Sunderland midfielder Dean Whitehead. The Black Cats skipper appears destined to be heading for the Stadium of Light exit this summer following the arrival of new boss Steve Bruce. The recently-appointed coach is keen to raid his former employers Wigan for the services of combative enforcer Lee Cattermole. Should the England U21 international complete a switch to Wearside, Bruce will then look to offload a few of his other midfield options. Whitehead appears set to lead that exodus, although it remains unclear as to where he will be starting the 2009/10 campaign. A move to the Tigers, alongside Black Cats team-mate Paul McShane, had been touted, but Duffen has moved to dismiss those rumours. "They are not players we are trying to acquire at this point," he told the Sunderland Echo. "In the middle of the park we're looking forward to Jimmy Bullard coming back (in September)."
