The wrong Adam Johnson is being trolled online

If we ever needed more proof that the people of Twitter are extremely hasty and not at all efficient with their trolling, see the case of @adamjohnson. Before you fall into the same trap as a lot of other people, who are apparently unable to look at a profile picture or read a bio – it’s not THAT Adam Johnson.

A man in America who describes himself as “pretty fresh”, is being abused online after news of Adam Johnson, the Sunderland winger, being arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a girl under 16.

It’s not the first time this has happened. Two weeks ago when the killer of EastEnders character Lucy Beale was revealed as her younger brother Bobby, another American @BobbieBeale was wrongly abused online.

But that wasn’t enough. Bobbie had to provide proof that she wasn’t a fictional 11-year-old from a fictional part of east London before people would stop.

The same thing happened last year, when Luis Suarez bit Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup.

And that’s why you should always check that you’re trolling the right person, kids. Or better still – just don’t troll at all.
