Sunderland midfielder Teemu Tainio is keen to make his loan switch to Birmingham City permanent. The Finland international moved to St Andrew's on a season-long loan deal last month and is enjoying life with Alex McLeish's side. "My aim is to keep Birmingham in the Premier League and maybe earn myself a long contract here," said Tainio. "It's maybe a little bit early to say now but why not, if I keep playing and we do well? "It's so important to feel the confidence of your manager when you're a player. Of course, confidence can go down very quickly if you don't play well. "I have to show now I was worth the trouble to bring me here. I am ready to prove myself to Birmingham fans, staff, coaches and the players." The 29-year-old joined the Black Cats in the summer of 2008 and featured in 23 games for the club. He has started two matches for Birmingham so far this season.
