Sunderland's Fraizer Campbell to miss another year with knee injury

Fraizer Campbell was said to feel 'gutted' on Friday night after being told he will miss the next 12 months with a knee injury.[LNB]The Sunderland striker appeared to be on the road to recovery after suffering a cruciate ligament injury last August. But he now faces further surgery on the same knee after twisting it in training.[LNB]Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said: 'We fear for him. We think the surgeon needs to have a look inside his knee again and if it does need repairing, then Fraizer is going to miss the best part of next season as well.'[LNB] Out of action: Campbell (left) has endured a frustrating season with injury[LNB]It was confirmed by a specialist in London that Campbell, 23, is facing a long road back to fitness. A source close to the player said: 'It's a massive blow. He was looking sharp after recovering from injury.He's gutted.'[LNB]Campbell has not played since August 29 last year when he suffered the cruciate ligament injury in Sunderland's 1-0 win over Manchester City. And after eight months out, the former Manchester United striker was close to making a first-team return.[LNB]But during the final training session before the 5-0 defeat by Roberto Mancini's side on  April 3, Campbell injured the same knee.[LNB] Same problem: Titus Bramble has also suffered a knee injury which will keep him out [LNB]The news is a bitter blow to Sunderland who have struggled for goals since Darren Bent joined Aston Villa in January, slumping to a run of one point from a possible 24.[LNB]Meanwhile, defender Titus Bramble has confirmed he is unlikely to play again this season, but was boosted by the news that he does not need surgery to repair knee cartilage damage.[LNB]He said: 'That's a bonus.
