Sunderland v Wigan Athletic Live

Two sides hoping to push clear of relegation danger meet at the Stadium of Light when Sunderland play host to Wigan Athletic. The Black Cats have seen a promising start to the season disintegrate during a run of ten Premier League games without a win, with manager Steve Bruce pointing to a lengthy injury list as one of the main reasons for such a slump. He said after a goalless draw at home to Stoke City on Monday evening: "It was good to have players back and available again and there's no doubt they made a difference. "We were a little bit nervous and edgy, which was understandable given the poor run we've been on, but I don't think anyone could complain about the effort and endeavour. "It's never easy to turn things around when you've been on a bad run, but we have to show that we can see it through and do exactly that." Bruce's mood will be further helped by the arrivals on loan of Spurs right-back Alan Hutton and Manchester City striker Benjani. Wigan's form is little better, with Roberto Martinez's men having won just once in their last eight league games, while their most recent outing ended in a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Everton. Martinez said after that reverse: "Now we all have to be together in order to react in the right manner and try to look through the result. "Yes it was a blow not to get anything from the game, but the performance was good enough to win." Wigan's slump prompted Martinez into action on transfer deadline day, with the Spaniard swooping for Crystal Palace's highly-rated teenage winger Victor Moses. Also joining on loan until the end of the season is Shakhtar Donetsk's Bolivia international striker Marcelo Moreno. Earlier this season a Hugo Rodallega goal gave the Latics a 1-0 win over Sunderland at the DW Stadium.
