Sunderland to swoop for £7m-rated Lyon star Mensah once visa granted
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is on the verge of signing Ghana defender John Mensah.
The Lyon centre-half is waiting for his visa application to be ratified so he can join Sunderland on loan.
Mensah will sign a year-long loan deal at the Stadium of Light and is then available for £7 million.
Bruce said: 'He is waiting for his visa to be stamped in Paris. The delay has been very frustrating for everyone but hopefully it will be done this weekend.'
Meanwhile the Sunderland boss confirmed Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards are in talks with former Black Cats boss Roy Keane at Ipswich.
