Sunderland set to axe Whitehead as Bruce makes move for Wigan star Cattermole
Sunderland skipper Dean Whitehead looks to be on his way out of the Stadium of Light.
With new manager Steve Bruce hoping to lure Lee Cattermole from Wigan, Whitehead is understood to be keen on a move five years after he joined from Oxford for £325,000.
Hull, who were interested in Whitehead last season, insist they no longer want to sign him but Stoke could offer him a chance to stay in the Barclays Premier League.
