Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon set for operation after Wolves clash

Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is to undergo surgery to remove a metal plate from his arm.  [LNB] The 27-year-old Scotland international will have an operation after Sunday's final Barclays Premier League game of the season at Wolves to remove the plate, which was inserted after he suffered a fracture in a collision with Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe in November.   [LNB]He will then spend part of his summer break back on Wearside rehabilitating before the start of the new campaign.   [LNB] Recovery: Gordon should be fighting fit in time for the start of next season[LNB]Gordon told the club's official website: 'I will have the operation to get the plate out and then I will be in the hands of the physios here for my rehab, however long that will take.[LNB]'Hopefully, I will be fully fit and ready to participate in pre-season training.'[LNB]Gordon was out of action for more than two months, but returned for the FA Cup fourth-round defeat at Portsmouth on January 23.[LNB]The £9million signing has produced some of his best displays for the club in recent months.[LNB]Meanwhile, Lee Cattermole has a suspected dislocated shoulder.[LNB]The midfielder sustained the injury in training and manager Steve Bruce said: 'We'll know more in 24 hours or so when we can let the supporters know exactly what's going on.'[LNB] Meyler set to miss start of next season after rupturing knee ligamentsDon't call me a hero!
