Sunderland joy as £6.5m Michael Turner buys into Steve Bruce's project
Sunderland agreed a £6.5million deal for Hull defender Michael Turner.
Sportsmail exclusively revealed Sunderland's interest and Turner, 25, who joined Hull from Brentford for £350,000 in 2006, has signed a four-year deal.
He becomes Steve Bruce's seventh summer signing after Darren Bent, Lee Cattermole, Fraizer Campbell, Lorik Cana, Paulo da Silva and loanee John Mensah.
Bruce is looking to add two more and wants to offload up to nine players today.
Portsmouth are interested in Nyron Nosworthy, while Danny Collins is poised to join Stoke for £3.5m.
David Healy's loan move to Coventry hit a hitch, the player wanting a permanentdeal. Carlos Edwards and Grant Leadbitter are set to join Ipswich for a combined £2.8m rising to £4m.
Phil Bardsley, Daryl Murphy and Roy O'Donovan have been the subject of enquiries.
Birmingham expect to land Teemu Tainio. Bruce, rebuffed in his efforts to sign MaynorFigueroa from Wigan, has turned again to free agent Lucas Neill, who has left West Ham.
On the Turner deal, Bruce said: 'I believe Michael is one of the country's premiercentral defenders. His aerial ability provides us with another dimension at setpiecesat either end of the field. I'm delighted he has chosen to buy into what we aretrying to achieve here.'
Brentford will pick up about 15 per cent of the fee as a sell-on clause.
