Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone to have scan on arm injury

Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone was on his way to hospital on Tuesday afternoon amid fears he may have suffered an arm fracture.

Manager David Moyes has revealed that the Italian is to undergo checks after being hurt in training.

Mannone would not have played in Wednesday night's EFL Cup clash with Shrewsbury anyway with England Under-21 international Jordan Pickford's due to start.

However, Moyes will hope the former Arsenal man has suffered no lasting damage with the Black Cats due at Southampton on Saturday as they chase their first point of the Premier League season.
