Sunderland manager Steve Brucehas no doubts that £6million signingLee Cattermole can continue to makean impact on the Barclays PremierLeague.

Bruce has pursued the EnglandUnder 21 midfielder, whom hecompares to Roy Keane, since he tookover at the Stadium of Light.

But the new Sunderland managerrecognises Cattermole,21, will haveto steer clear of troubleon and off the pitch tobuild on his impressivefirst full season at Wigan.

Bruce, thenmanager at the JJB,had signed Cattermolefrom Middlesbrough.

Bruce said: 'Maybe going to Wiganhelped him and bringing him back tothe north-east was an issue.

'I will haveto speak with him but he matured alittle bit in that year.

'He had a wonderful season for me and,if he can get better, we've got a hell of aplayer.

'He is competitive and genuineand has never gone out to hurt anyonedeliberately.

'He's a born winner.'

Paraguayan Paulo da Silva has receivedhis visa at last but is unlikely to featurein Saturday's visit to Bolton.

Bruce is considering recruiting Arsenalcentre half Philippe Senderos, 24, whono longer interests Everton.
