Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill is waiting to hear the extent of captain Lee Cattermole's knee injury.

The Black Cats' captain suffered a knee problem in the build-up to the game at Goodison Park leaving him unable to feature in the 2-1 defeat. And the Premier League club have confirmed the 24-year-old will undergo a scan to assess the problem. Speaking following the defeat by Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday, O'Neill said:

"Lee hurt himself (on Friday). "He hurt his knee in a training session and will have a scan at the beginning of the week." O'Neill's men face Fulham on Sunday and the Northern Irishman could also be without Steven Fletcher and Phil Bardsley for the trip to West London. Fletcher picked up a knock in the game at Everton while Bardsley was not fit for the trip after suffering a hamstring problem against Aston Villa the previous weekend.
