Steve Bruce can expect a transfer budget to match Real Madrid's - or at least the £56million offer they have made for Kaka - in his new role as Sunderland manager.
The last Sunderland board spent almost £100m indulging Roy Keane and if Bruce can appeal to the generous nature and enthusiasm of new owner Ellis Scott and generate a few million himself in the transfer market, he will also have sizeable funds at his disposal.
