Striking trio delight Bruce

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is delighted with the way his striking trio of Darren Bent, Kenwyne Jones and Frazier Campbell are performing. The Black Cats scored five times against Wolves on Sunday, making it 14 goals from their opening seven Premier League games. Bent and Jones each converted a penalty in the game, while Jones also blasted home from long range before Bent's late effort was deflected in by Wolves defender Michael Mancienne. Campbell, a £6million summer signing, was on the bench against Wolves but had impressed in combination with either Bent or Jones in the previous three games to signal that he will not be content with a cameo role at the club. HandfulBruce is delighted with the trio's efforts, saying: "I have always said since I have been in it, you are only as good as your strikers, and at the moment Fraizer, Kenwyne and Darren are a handful and have got us where we are at the moment. "They are terrific." Meanwhile, Bruce has defended dropping Anton Ferdinand for the game against Wolves as recent signings John Mensah and Paulo da Silva were handed first league starts. Da Silva lined up at right-back after Phil Bardsley was sent home with a virus, while Mensah was included after a solid display against Birmingham in the Carling Cup in midweek. Ferdinand, who was also left out against the Blues, started on the bench and then came on for Da Silva late on. Right wayAsked about Ferdinand's reaction, Bruce replied: "Listen, I hope he takes it the right way. "You have to make decisions, managers today, and I made a decision. "I had to play Mensah because his performance in midweek was excellent, so I kept the team. "But he will be back."
