Sunderland boss Steve Bruce wants Bolo Zenden to stay on Wearside beyond the end of the season. [LNB]Bruce is planning to open talks with the former Holland international who scored one of the best goals ever seen at the Stadium of Light in Saturday's 3-1 win over Tottenham.[LNB] Zenden, who was signed for one year on a free transfer in August, has been used sparingly by Bruce and has struggled to shake off a number of niggling injuries.[LNB] [LNB] In demand: Zenden has an important role to play at Sunderland[LNB]The 33-year-old ex-Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Middlesbrough and Marseille midfielder has only started one game this season but Bruce is hoping to convince him to stay. [LNB]Bruce said: 'On the very quiet side of it, Bolo is probably a bit disappointed he hasn't started more. To be fair to me, when I was looking for him to start games, if I look back at the records, he picked up a couple of niggly injuries. That's par for the course at his age and it meant I couldn't play him. [LNB]'But, on the quiet, he's done very well and I like to have him involved. He's our joint top scorer in the league from midfield, along with Andy Reid this season - he's got two![LNB] 'But you saw his goal at the weekend, he does have that ability in his locker, and he's a great player to bring on to be able to settle the side down. [LNB]  'I think Bolo will be a little bit disappointed he hasn't played as much, but he does understand that - unfortunately for him - he's at the wrong end of his career. [LNB]'But you can see from the goal he got at the weekend what a player he must have been in his day. As I've repeatedly said, you don't play for Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and Marseille if you're not a good player. [LNB]'That goal against Spurs was as good as you'll see. The technique for the dropping volley. Wow! And the one thing he has helped me with is the development of the young players. [LNB]'If you watch him as an older pro, he's a great pro. So I will sit down with him over the next 24, 48 hours and see what he wants to do. I would like to keep him for another year because he's got something to offer.'
