Steed rides into Sunderland
31 Jul 2008 - 07:31:05
French midfielder Steed Malbranque has tied up a move from Tottenham Hotspur to Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old has penned a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light, having spent two seasons with Spurs following his arrival from Fulham.
Malbranque scored 12 goals in 96 appearances for Spurs, having previously netted 43 times in 203 outings for the Cottagers.
Black Cats boss Roy Keane is pleased to have tied up a deal for a third player from White Hart Lane, having already snared defender Pascal Chimbonda and midfielder Teemu Tainio.
He told the club's official website: "Steed is another signing who will excite our supporters and we're delighted to have him here.
"He's played in the Premier League for six or seven years now and has been a consistent performer for both Tottenham and Fulham, he creates a lot for the team and can chip in with a goal or two.
"Steed is a very tricky player and is always looking for the ball and looking to open teams up.
"He'll certainly offer something different to our team and will further increase competition for places in the midfield area."
