SPL players 'lack physique' to compete in England

Black, the former Aberdeen and Scotland striker, who followed Steve Bruce to the Stadium of Light after working under him at Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic, claims that his compatriots will be given a wide berth by the Wearside club. [LNB]'Height, pace and power are all needed in equal measure and so few Scots possess all the required qualities to survive.'[LNB]The only Scots at Sunderland are goalkeeper Craig Gordon, who was in and out of the side last season, and defender Russell Anderson, a transfer target for newly-promoted Burnley. [LNB]Manchester United's Darren Fletcher was the only member of George Burley's Scotland side to feature regularly in the top flight last season, a fact which doesn't surprise Black. [LNB]'In the English Premier League today you need to replace outgoing players with new ones who are both experienced and good enough to do the necessary job for the team straight away,' he said.
