Whilst the football may have finished at the Stadium of Light work is underway at fever-pitch in preparation for a massive month of concerts.

The concert promoter and hundreds of set-up crew have moved on-site to begin the huge task of preparing the stadium for the first of its three summer concerts – Bon Jovi - in just under a weeks’ time.

The vast infrastructure required to host the show is currently being installed and crowd barriers, handrails, LED boards and advertising hoardings have already been removed from around the playing field and a special surface is being laid which covers the entire pitch.

An external courtyard area designed to house pre-show entertainment, food courts and bars is also under construction.

Facilities manager Peter Weymes said: “There’s a huge amount of work involved in preparing the stadium for the concerts and getting it ready for the arrival of the bands.

“I’m really pleased with everyone who is working on the Stadium. They are working hard and pulling together to make sure the stadium will be in a fantastic shape for the concerts and I’m delighted with the Facilities Team, as usual they are all going the extra mile.”

Sunderland welcomes American Rock Gods Bon Jovi on June 13, followed by US songstress Rihanna on June 20 and the North East’s biggest ever pop concert North East Live on June 22 completes Wearside’s trilogy of spectacular shows.

Tickets for all three concerts are still available from the SAFC ticket office and further information on the concerts is available at www.safcconcerts.com where you will also find information about events across the city and how to get here quickly and safely.
