Stephane Sessegnon has insisted he never wanted to leave Sunderland despite repeated speculation during the summer. The 28-year-old Benin international was linked with a move back to former club Paris St Germain and was also touted as a target for North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham.
However, as the closure of the transfer window approached, he signed a contract extension which will keep him at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2015.
"I have always been happy here," Sessegnon told the Sunderland Echo. "There's been a lot written and said in the media over the summer about possible interest, but I have just continued to train and play the matches, and I think it's been clear that I have wanted to stay here. "I was happy to sign a new contract and I will give 200 per cent to give the team the best chance of having a successful season."
