Stephane Sessegnon claimed a dramatic late equaliser for Sunderland as Steve Bruce's men snatched a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light.
Stilyan Petrov fired Villa into a 20th minute lead but 18-year-old Connor Wickham equalised 18 minutes later with a superb left-foot strike.
Richard Dunne headed Villa back in front with six minutes left but Sunderland still had time to draw level when Sessegnon nodded in Sebastian Larsson's free-kick.
