See ya Di Canio!

After just 13 games in charge at Sunderland. Di Canio has been booted out of Wearside. Paulo has left the building.

Paulo Di Canio was possibly one of the best players ever to be seen in the premier league. Who can forget his magnificent goal against Wimbledon? I don't think anybody can dispute this. His management skills are unique, to say the least, and unfortunately not good enough for the top level.

When he got his first job at Swindon he did a excellent job, he left due to financial problems and there is no doubt Swindon would have been in the championship if he hadn't. After taking over from Martin O'Neill he kept Sunderland in the Barclays Premier League and guided the team to a 3-0 thrashing of their arch rivals Newcatle. So were did it all go wrong?

I think first of all the problem is, better players have bigger pay packets and therefore the ego is bigger. My impression of Di Canio is that he likes things to be done his way and the players were not having that. Di Canio was to have been reported to insist that no staff other then coaching staff were allowed to talk to the players. He also asked that the canteen be emptied when the first team were eating. He openly criticised his players. Lee Cattermole, Carlos Cueller, Stephane Sessegnon and John O'Shea were all exposed to Di Canio's rage.

Many of Sunderland's players went to owner Ellis Short to complain about the manager's attitude and the tough and disciplined regime after the defeat to West Brom and hours later Di Canio was removed as manager.

This says to me 2 things. Number one Di Canio is better managing at a lower level at least until he has a bit more experience and number two, its the players with the power not the management.

Hopefully Paulo can learn from this and become a top manager and who knows we may even see him back at West Ham in the future.
