Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson is delighted with how the season has started and he believes Sunderland are "going places".

The former Arsenal youth player joined the Black Cats on a free transfer from relegated Birmingham over the summer. The Swede marked his debut with a spectacular equaliser in the club's 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. With Larsson one of 10 new arrivals during a productive summer on Wearside, the 26-year-old believes the club are primed for a successful season."I think I have joined Sunderland at the right time, they have the feel of a club going places," he told the Sunderland Echo.

"Obviously I spoke to the club before signing and the manager outlined his ambitions and those ambitions coincided with mine."But it was still nice to see the players joining after signing myself - so many new players and good names. "It shows the intent and I think this is the time for the club to push on - right from the beginning of the campaign.Larsson also revealed his excitement at the prospect of making his home debut against north-east rivals Newcastle at the weekend.

"The derby game will be interesting and I'm looking forward to it," added the midfielder."It will be a fantastic atmosphere. As a player you always want to play in big matches like that."But it's also important to have a strong side behind you and I think this season we have that. It's an exciting time for us all and that means we've got to go into every game feeling confident."
