Sbragia hails focused Jones

Sunderland manager Ricky Sbragia was full of praise for striker Kenwyne Jones, after he scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory at home to Fulham.

The 24-year-old signed a new long-term contract with Black Cats earlier in the day, having been linked with a move to Spurs in recent days.

Sbargia said: "There's one thing about Kenwyne, he has never wavered and said he wanted to leave Sunderland Football Club, so he deserves everything he gets.

"He deserves the contract and without doubt we need him. We know we need him, he is an important member of the team.

"He deserved that tonight. A lot of players at other clubs, or even our club, would want to go and talk to club that was interested, but credit to Kenwyne, he was never interested.

"He has got a lot to learn, but he will be a handful, but there are not many people his size in the Premier League.

"He is a target man and he is willing to learn, that's the good thing about him.

"In his mind, he feels right, but there is a lot still to come from him. He probably might not realise it's there, but potential-wise, there is an awful lot more to come."
