Sbragia - Wigan deserved it

Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia has bemoaned the performance of his team after they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Wigan.[LNB] Grant Leadbitter scored the only goal for the Black Cats as Ben Watson and Charles N'Zogbia earned the spoils for Wigan.[LNB]Sunderland dominated the possession for large parts of the game, but had little to show for it - much to Sbragia's frustration.[LNB]"I'm not sure about damaging, but it was a disappointing performance and we didn't take the game to Wigan," Sbragia told Sky Sports News.[LNB]"I thought the first half we were OK; we got back to the 1-1 and then gave a sloppy goal away for the second just before half time[LNB]"The second half we were poor, I thought the tempo and the decision making was poor. In general I thought maybe Wigan deserved to win the game."[LNB]Relegation fearsCombined with Portsmouth's draw, the loss to Wigan brings Sbragia's side one point closer to the relegation places.[LNB]And with just a three point cushion, the Sunderland boss knows that the threat of the drop is very real.[LNB]"We've never thought that we weren't in a relegation battle, I think it was always going to be tight and I've always felt that there's a possibility that it will go to the last day," he admitted.[LNB]"At present we've got the points on the board, we know what we've got to achieve and we've got to try and get up and climb up the table[LNB]"I'm obviously confident, and we've got enough to stay up, but we've got to play better than we did today."[LNB]
