Rade Prica is on the verge of ending his unhappy spell with Sunderland and signing for Norwegian side Rosenborg.
The 28-year-old, who has also been linked with Danish clubs Aab Aalborg and FC Copenhagen, seems set to he heading to the Norwegian side instead.
Prica joined the Black Cats from Aalborg just over a year ago but has failed to start a game for the Premier League side, although he did make six appearances from the substitute's bench last term.
Boss Ricky Sbragia told the Sunderland Echo: "All footballers are in the game to play football and it's a mistake to sit around at a club for a long period of time if you're not getting first-team football.
"Ultimately it can harm your long-term career if you spend a prolonged amount of time on the sidelines."
Sbragia is also believed to be willing to let Martyn Waghorn, David Dowson, Robbie Weir and Trevor Carson leave the Stadium of Light on loan.
