Rose ready for more

Sunderland new boy Danny Rose is setting his sights on bigger things as he works his way towards full match fitness.

The 22-year-old loan signing from Tottenham has enjoyed an encouraging opening to his season-long spell on Wearside, which has seen him start the last four games. He said:

"I am getting fitter and fitter now game by game. I am definitely enjoying my football now, playing week in, week out and hopefully it can take me on to bigger and better things."

Left-back Rose has played a significant role in the Black Cats' unbeaten start to the season with his four appearances to date bringing Premier League draws with Liverpool at home and West Ham at Upton Park, as well as a Capital One Cup third round win at MK Dons and Saturday's first league success of the season over Wigan at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have conceded only twice in those four fixtures, and that is a source of some satisfaction for the Yorkshireman, who represented Team GB at this summer's Olympic Games, and his defensive colleagues. Rose said:

"That was vital as well for us, especially when the back four has been mixed about a little bit. I am still getting used to the lads and they are still getting used to me at the back, so a clean-sheet is good."
