Ricky Sbragia has been appointed chief scout at Sunderland. Sbragia stepped down as boss of the Black Cats after securing their Premier League survival at the end of the season after taking the reins following Roy Keane's departure in December 2008. Manager Steve Bruce said: 'Ricky has a wealth of knowledge and experience and I'm delighted that he will be heading up our scouting operation. 'He has a vast network of contacts and he knows just what it takes to be a successful footballer at this club so I'm sure he will be a fantastic asset to our backroom team.' Sbragia, who has also had spells at Manchester United and Bolton, first arrived at Sunderland in 1994 as youth coach before taking charge of the reserves.
