Revenge is on the agenda for boss

STEVE Bruce insists Sunderland must not let the derby humbling by Newcastle United derail their season but admits he is already plotting revenge on the Magpies after the 5-1 thrashing last weekend.[LNB] It's been a hard week for everyone on Wearside, but Bruce admits he is already counting down the days until the sides meet at the Stadium of Light on January 16.[LNB] After the whistle had blown at the end of the game on Sunday, the Monkees' Daydream Believer was played around St James' Park, rubbing further salt into Bruce's wounds and although the Black Cats' boss insists he didn't hear it, he admits he will be seeking revenge in the new year.[LNB] Fortunately I didn't hear it because I was already inside but others did, Bruce revealed.[LNB] I hope we can repeat the same dosage when they come to our place. It was typical of their etiquette.[LNB] It is 71 days to the next derby. That is a motivating force. Some will see through it and see we have the nucleus of a decent young side that got their backsides kicked from naivety and inexperience.[LNB] They will learn from it.[LNB] Defeat ended a sevenmatch unbeaten streak for Bruce's side, which included wins against Man City and Aston Villa, as well as draws with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.[LNB] Bruce knows he must turn things around quickly starting tomorrow against Stoke City but he stresses the club must not let one bad result affect their season.[LNB] All I can do it try and repair that. One result shouldn't cloud what we have done over 18 months, the former Wigan manager said.[LNB] We have to not let it derail our season. We have lost three times in 18 months at home. Yes we were badly beaten last week and we are desperately hurt but we have to put it into perspective. It was my worst defeat ever. It is gone, done and dusted.[LNB] There is no hiding place for us. It has happened. We are making some sort of progress.'' He added: We have played good stuff against some big teams. How do we respond[LNB] We get a result against Stoke, then we play two of the best teams in Europe, Spurs and Chelsea.[LNB] It was an awful weekend.[LNB] As a manager when all around you is chaos then you have to earn your money and stay strong, stay with it.[LNB] It was a horror show but we can't let it derail our season.[LNB] Before that we'd performed fantastically well but froze on the day.'' The manager understands the pain Sunday's result caused for the fans and knows it will be hard to win back their support and trust, but insists the whole squad are working hard to put the performance right.[LNB] For every fan, everyone at the club if they're hurting, I'm hurting just as bad,[LNB] Bruce revealed.[LNB] Hindsight's a wonderful thing but we can't make excuses, we've got to take the beating and try and repair the damage.[LNB] In some people's eyes it's irreparable but we've got to try and get the vast majority back on side.[LNB] We're over it, we've analysed it and picked the bones out of it, we've been at it hammer and tongs in a bid to put things right, working very hard after a humiliation like that.[LNB] Make no mistake there's been some tough talk after last week, they're as deeply upset and disappointed as anyone and rightly so. The one thing we've got to do is to try and repair it.[LNB] For some it might take weeks, months, for some years or for others never in some people's eyes. We have to live with that and I can understand that.[LNB] Striker David Healy has moved to Doncaster on loan for 28 days.[LNB]
