Return to action pleases Jones
22 Oct 2008 - 14:32:39
Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones is delighted to finally be close to a return to action after a battle to recover from a serious knee injury.
The 24-year-old has been sidelined since suffering knee ligament damage in Trinidad & Tobago's friendly against England in June, but is poised for a reserve team outing after stepping up his recovery.
Jones told the Sunderland Echo: "I'm excited to be playing a game again. I've been training for the last two and a half to three weeks, so it will be nice to get back to kicking footballs again.
"The worst part after I had got the injury was the first six weeks. I couldn't really do any rehab and it was just a case of waiting around for something to happen.
"Originally, there was a possibility that I would be out until March and I had already mentally prepared myself for that.
"But, thank God, some good news came along and I am here now.
"It's hard work after an injury like this. When you're out for so long, your muscles almost forget how to do those things. It's been a long road."
Jones joined the Black Cats in August 2007 from Southampton and scored seven goals in 33 appearances for Roy Keane's side last season.
