Reid blow troubles Addicks

29 Mar 2007 - 12:59:39

Charlton Athletic's hopes of avoiding relegation have suffered a knock with the news that Andy Reid has been ruled out for the season with a hamstring injury.

Reid, 24, has been sidelined since undergoing surgery in mid-January and Addicks boss Alan Pardew has admitted the Republic of Ireland international won't play again until next season.

The former Tottenham wideman moved to The Valley for £3million in the summer but has made only 17 appearances during an injury-ravaged campaign.

He also scored twice in back-to-back games against Everton and Sheffield United in the autumn.

Meanwhile, Pardew has set his side a target of four wins from their remaining eight games if they are to retain their Premiership status.

"We need four more wins, no less," he told the club's official website. "The job is for us to do, not anybody else and we can do it.

"We've got another home game coming up against Wigan and we need to win, although I thought that four points was imperative from the Newcastle and Wigan games and we've already got three.

"So if we can get six that will be very, very pleasing, but I'd still settle for one against Wigan.

"The Valley is the key. When we say home, it's not just about the ground, it's about the fans, it's about the positive attitude that they're coming in with and how that generates to the players.

"We're not showing any nerves and that's a good sign.

"We're scoring goals and we're threatening to score more goals. The problem in the Premier League is actually scoring - that's the hardest thing to do - and we're starting to score goals.

"We've got eight in our last three games, so that's a good sign too."
