Reid considering Cats departure
Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid has admitted he may be forced to leave the Stadium of Light to secure regular first-team football.[LNB] The Republic of Ireland international has yet to make a start for the Black Cats in the Premier League this term despite recovering from calf surgery that kept him out for over six months.[LNB]Despite being a key part of Steve Bruce's side last season, Reid has had to settle for substitute appearances and reserve games so far in this campaign, with the 28-year-old admitting he is becoming frustrated.[LNB]"I'm disappointed I've not played more since I've come back," Reid told the Northern Echo. "I understand that the team are doing well and I'm delighted that they're doing well. [LNB]"But if you look at it from a selfish perspective you want to be part of it - you want to be in. [LNB]"With me not starting games - I've come on for a few minutes here and there - I don't feel part of it. I want to be because the most important thing for me now is that I need games. [LNB]"I've missed loads towards the end of last season so now I'm at the stage where I really, really need games. [LNB]"I've played three reserve games but with the greatest respect I'm 28 years of age and I don't really want to be playing reserve football every week. [LNB]"I need to play first team games. I guess if I don't get a chance then maybe I need to get out and get some games in." [LNB]Reid is now in the final year of his contract and has yet to be given any indication whether he will still be at the Stadium of Light next season.[LNB]And with Ahmed Elmohamady and Danny Welbeck currently in the wide positions, Reid knew that despite wanting to stay at the club, he must weigh up his options.[LNB]"I need games and if it's not here, it's going to be somewhere else," he said.[LNB]"It is very, very difficult. You want to be in there and involved and when you're not, it can be tough. [LNB]"You have to stay right mentally, to keep doing the work to ensure that when you do come back you're in the best possible position to get back in the team and be where you want to be.[LNB]"I feel that no matter where I go, if I'm given a chance in the first team - like I was last year - then I don't think anyone would get me out of the team. [LNB]"It's easy for me to say and I don't blame the manager for not playing me when the team are doing well."
